Where Have All the Flowers Gone?  เพลงโฟล์คในยุค  60s  แต่งโดย Pete Seeger คนเดียวกับที่แต่งเพลงฮิตที่พวกเรารู้จักกันดีเช่นเพลง "Goodnight Irene" , "If I Had a Hammer" ระหว่างที่อยู่บนเครื่องบินในเดือนตุลาคม ปี1955 Seeger ไปเห็น ข้อความในสมุดโน้ตของเขาที่เขียนว่า   "Where are the flowers, the girls have plucked them. Where are the girls, they've all taken husbands. Where are the men, they're all in the army." เป็นข้อความที่นำมาจากเพลงโฟล์ค ของ ยูเครน จากนิยายที่เขียนโดย Mikhail Sholokhov  เรื่อง Quiet Flows the Don.ซึ่งใช้เป็นเพลงต่อต้านสงครามในรัสเซีย จากข้อความเหล่านี้เองที่เป็นแรงดลใจให้เขานำมันมาตกแต่งปรับปรุงใหม่โดยใช้ คำ 3 คำ ล้อกันไปล้อกันมา 'Where have all the flowers gone............ long time passing.......... Long time ago.  และทำออกมาเป็นเมดเลย์ในอัลบั้ม a Rainbow Quest จากนั้นก็ลืมมันไป จนกระทั่ง The Kingston Trio นำมาทำใหม่ในปี 1961 ขึ้นถึงอันดับ 21 โดยที่พวกเขาก็ยังไม่รู้ว่าเนื้อเพลงเหล่านี้ใครเป็นผู้แต่งกันแน่ เพลง Where Have All the Flowers Gone?  รู้จักไปไกลทั่วโลก ในช่วงที่เกิดสงครามเวียตนาม(1961-1975) แม้แต่สงรามกลางเมืองของอีรัค เพลงนี้ได้รับความสนใจจากกลุ่มผู้รักสงบและต่อต้านสงครามมากขึ้น จนมาถึงเยอรมัน Marlene Dietrich นักร้องสาวจากกรุงเบอร์ลิน  นำเพลงนี้ไปทำเป็นภาษาเยอรมันชื่อเพลง "Sag' mir, wo die Blumen sind"  ซึ่งแปลเนื้อโดย Max Colpet. ต่อมา Peggy Seeger นักร้องเพลงโฟล์คชาวอเมริกัน และ Dominic Behan นักร้องชาวไอริชก็นำไปร้องบ้าง แต่ที่ทำให้คนทั้งโลกรู้จักเพลงนี้กลายเป็นวงทริโอที่มีชื่อเสียงในยุค 60s ของอเมริกา Peter, Paul and Mary  ได้นำมารวมลงอัลบั้ม Peter, Paul and Mary จนเพลงนี้กลายเป็นเพลงฮิตในยุคนั้น   WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE ? The Brothers 4 และอีกเวอร์ชั่นที่ฮิตไม่แพ้กัน จากอัลบั้ม Greenfields & Other Gold นั่นคือ WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE ? ของThe Brothers Four  กลุ่มอเมริกันโฟล์คซองจากเมืองซีแอตเติล ดอกไม้หายไปไหน............เด็กผู้หญิงเด็ดไป....................เด็กๆหายไปไหน หายไปอยู่กับสามี ..............เด็กหนุ่มหายไปไหน..............หายไปเป็นทหารทหารหายไปไหน............. ไปอยู่ที่หลุมฝังศพ ...........แล้วก็มีดอกไม้เกิดขึ้น และคำถามที่ว่า Where have all the flowers gone? แล้วดอกไม้หายไปไหน?   กลายมาเป็นตำนานของการเชิญชวนมนุษยชาติให้รักสันติ เพราะกล่าวขานถึงความเศร้าที่ได้รับจากการสูญเสีย  การสิ้นหวัง  การรอคอย  และบางครั้งยังถูกนำไปใช้ในการอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติอีกด้วย  คำถามนี้ จึงเป็นที่นิยมใช้กันมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน  และคงจะใช้ไปจนกว่ามนุษย์จะหยุดการรบราฆ่าฟันกัน
