Coldplay วงร้อคจากอังกฤษประกอบไปด้วย Chris Martin ร้องนำ เปียนโน กีตาร์,Jonny Buckland ลีดกีตาร์, Guy Berryman เบส และ Will Champion กลอง กับผลงานที่จำหน่ายไปแล้วทั่วโลก กว่า 30 ล้านอัลบั้ม มีเพลงฮิตมากมายจนมาถึงเพลงนี้ “Viva la Vida” หรือ “Death and All His Friends” เพลงแรกจากอัลบั้มที่ 4 ของพวกเขา ที่กลับมาเอาใจแฟนเพลงร้อคอีกครั้ง เนื้อหาของเพลงนี้ เป็นเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับพระเยซู ผู้เป็นกษัตริย์แห่งยารุซาเร็ม และ Saint Peter 1 ใน สาวกซึ่งครั้งหนึ่งไม่ยอมรับในพระองค์

'Viva La Vida' มีความหมายหลายอย่าง ใครก็ตามที่พูดภาษาเสปนได้ เมื่อได้ยินคำนี้แล้วจะรู้ทันทีว่าหมายถึง ขอจงมีชีวิตที่ยืนยาว  'Live Life' หรือ 'Live The Life' หรือ 'Long Live Life' นั่นก็คือ   'the life lives on' ชีวิตต้องก้าวต่อไป  แต่ใน Mexico  คำนี้ 'Viva la Vida' มักถูกนำไปใช้ในการฉลองอายุ

Brian Eno ซึ่งเป็นโปรดิวเซอร์ของโปรเจคครั้งนี้ ให้สัมภาษณ์ เมื่อเดือนตุลาคม  2007  ว่า Viva la Vida หรือ Death And All His Friends ถูกตั้งเป้าหมายไว้ว่าจะออกวางจำหน่ายในวันที่ 12 มิถุนายน 2008 ในขณะนี้ทุกอย่างใกล้จะเสร็จสมบูรณ์แล้ว

นักร้องนำของวง Chris Martin ไปซาบซึ้งกับวลีนี้ที่หมายถึง  “long live life,” จากผลงานของอาร์ททิสผู้พิการชาวเม็กซิกัน Frida Kahlo, ( 6 กรกฎาคม  1907 –  13 กรกฎาคม 1954) แม้เธอจะเป็นโปลิโอตั้งแต่อายุ 6 ขวบ ซ้ำยังถูกรถชนกระดูกหักหลายท่อนตอนอายุ 18  แต่เธอไม่ย่อท้อที่จะสร้างผลงานทางด้านศิลปะออกมา พร้อมกับคำกล่าวของเธอที่ว่า ‘Viva la Vida’ ซึ่งหลังจากเธอสิ้นชีวิตไปแล้วได้มีการรวบรวมผลงานจากภาพวาดของเธอจัดตั้งเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ทางศิลปะชื่อว่า La Casa Azul (The Blue House)


ผลงานที่ชื่อเดียวกับชื่อเพลง เป็นภาพวาดจากสีน้ำมันรุปแตงโม  
ส่วนภาพปกมีชื่อว่า Liberty Leading the People (French : La Liberté guidant le peuple)
ซึ่งวาดไว้เมื่อปี 1830  เกี่ยวกับเรื่องราวของการเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งใหญ่ในฝรั่งเศส The French Revolution  of 1830 แต่เป็นผลงานของ Eguene Delacroix  จิตรกรชาวฝรั่งเศส
