"Somethin' Stupid" เพลงจากบทประพันธ์ของ  C. Carson Parks ต้นฉบับในปี 1966 โดย Parks and  Gail Foote, ภรรยาของเขา ในนามของ "Carson and Gaile".


 ต้นปี 1960s, Carson Parks เป็นเพียงนักร้องเพลงโฟล์คใน Los Angeles. ร่วมเล่นดนตรีมาหลายวง  จนได้มาแต่งงานกับนักร้องสาว Gaile Foote. สุดท้ายกลายมาเป็นวง Carson and Gaile,และมีผลงานของตัวเองที่ชื่อ "Something Stupid". ต่อมาได้ขายลิขสิทธิ์เพลงนี้ให้กับ Frank Sinatra. เป็นเพลงสุดฮิตในเวอร์ชั่นของ Frank Sinatra กับ Nancy Sinatra.บุตรสาว ซึ่งทำออกมาในอัลบั้ม The World We Knew. บันทึกไว้เมื่อวันที่ 1 กุมภาพันธ์ 1967.

แค่ 4 สัปดาห์ที่เปิดตัวมาก็ขึ้นถึงอันดับ 1 ของ the US Billboard Hot 100 chart นานถึง 9 สัปดาห์ ยอดขายพุ่งฉิวจนทำให้ Mr. Sinatra ได้แผ่นเสียงทองคำเป็นแผ่นที่ 2  ได้รับการการันตีจาก  RIAA และกลายเป็นนักร้อง"คู่ขวัญพ่อ-ลูก" อันดับ 1คู่แรกของอเมริกา และซิงเกิลนี้ ยังติดอันดับ 1 ของชาร์ตเพลงในอังกฤษด้วยในปีเดียวกัน

ต่อมามีผู้นำมาขับร้องใหม่หลายคนที่ฮือฮามากคือ ซิงเกิลของ Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman จากอัลบั้ม  Swing When You're Winning ที่ออกวางจำหน่ายเมื่อวันที่ 10 ธันวาคม 2001 ติดอันดับสูงสุดของชาร์ตเพลงอังกฤษสิ้นปีนั้น

Robbie Williams นักร้องชาวอังกฤษบันทึก "Somethin' Stupid" เป็นเพลงคู่อีกครั้งในปี  2001 กับรางวัล Academy Award-winning คู่กับนักแสดงฝ่ายหญิง Nicole Kidman. ในอัลบั้ม Williams' 2001 , แค่สัปดาห์แรกที่ออกวางตลาดก็ขายได้กว่า 98,506 copies จัดเป็นอันดับที่ 30 ที่ขายดีที่สุดของอังกฤษในปี 2001 และเป็นซิงเกิลที่ขายดีในยุโรปติดอันดับ 1 ในหลายๆเมือง .

 

Frank Sinatra  ร้องเพลงนี้คู่กับลูกสาวของเขา Nancy Sinatra เมื่อปี 1967 และได้ขึ้นเป็นอันดับหนึ่งใน Single Chart ของทั้งอังกฤษและอเมริกา  ในวันนี้ เพลง Something Stupid กลายเป็นเหล้าเก่าในขวดใหม่เมื่อ  Robbie Williams นำมาขับร้องประสานเสียงใหม่เมื่อปีที่ผ่านมา กับนางเอกสาว Nicole Kidman ภรรยาเก่าของพระเอก Tom Cruise และขึ้นอันดับหนึ่งใน Single Chart ของอังกฤษ  ทั้งยังได้รับความนิยมอยู่ในขณะนี้ 

 

ตามเนื้อเพลงประโยคแรกเล่าว่าไปจีบผู้หญิงที่ค่อนข้าง Popular ทั้งๆที่รู้ดีว่าตนไม่ได้เป็นคนพิเศษสำหรับเธอ เพราะเธอมีชายให้เลือกมากมาย I know I stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me.

ผมรู้ตัวว่า ผมได้แค่เพียงรอจนกว่าคุณคิดว่าพอจะปลีกเวลาให้ได้     เขาเล่าต่อไปว่าอุตส่าห์เตรียมการไว้อย่างดี  นับตั้งแต่เลือกสถานที่เล็กๆเงียบๆเพราะเกรงว่า If we go some place to dance, I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me. หากพาเธอไปยังที่สถานที่เต้นรำ คงจะหาโอกาสอยู่กันตามลำพังได้ยาก (ก็อย่างที่บอกไว้แต่ต้นว่า เธอมีคนตามจีบเป็นแถว) เขายังบอกอีกว่า  ก่อนจะมากับเธอ ได้มีการตระเตรียมความพร้อมหลายอย่าง  เช่น I practice every day to find some clever lines to say to make the meaning come through.
    
  ผมได้เตรียมคำพูดเด็ดๆ และฝึกท่องทุกวันจนขึ้นใจ เพื่อจะได้พูดเผยให้เธอรู้ความนัย  นอกจากนี้ เขาสู้อดทนรอหาจังหวะเหมาะๆที่จะกล่าวถ้อยคำซึ่งเตรียมไว้

The time is right your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and oh! the night's so blue. ผมรอจนได้จังหวะเหมาะเมื่อเริ่มจะมืดค่ำลง มีเพียงลำพังเรากับดวงดาวที่กระจ่างพร่างพราย ในท้องฟ้าอันสดใส และกลิ่นกายเธอช่างหอมกรุ่นเร้าใจผมเสียนี่กระไร  แต่ทุกอย่างก็ลงเอยลงแบบตกม้าตายดังประโยคสุดท้ายของแต่ละย่อหน้าซึ่งเป็นใจความสำคัญของเพลงนี้ว่า     And then I go and spoil it all, by saying something stupid like: "I love you".  ครั้นแล้ว ผมก็ทำลายทุกอย่างลงด้วยการหลุดคำพูดที่ไม่เข้าท่าออกมา เช่นว่า  "ผมรักคุณ" มีประโยคในเชิงตัดพ้อแสดงความน้อยใจว่า

I can see it in your eyes, that you despise the same old line you heard the night before.And though it's just a line to you, for me it's true It never seemed so right before.

ผมอ่านได้จากสายตาเธอว่า เธอเซ็งกับประโยคซ้ำซากนี้ เพราะคงได้ยินอยู่บ่อยๆ (จากคนอื่นๆในคืนก่อนๆ   บอกแล้วไงว่ามีคนจีบเธอเยอะ) แต่สำหรับผมแล้วมันออกจากใจจริง อย่างไรก็ตาม   แม้ว่าเนื้อเพลงจะไม่ได้จบลงแบบ Happy Ending แต่ก็มีข่าว Hollywood Gossip แว่วๆมาว่าเห็น Robbie Williams กับ Nicole Kidman แอบไปจู๋จี๋กันหลายครั้ง ซึ่ง  Nicole  ก็ปฏิเสธแบบไม่ค่อยจะเต็มปากเต็มคำเท่าใดนัก คนดังก็เป็นแบบนี้แหละ ทำอะไรๆก็มีแต่คนจับตามอง  ก็สุดแท้แต่จะว่ากันไป
