" Beyond the Sea "เป็นผลงานการประพันธ์ดนตรีโดย Claude Debussy  คีกวีชาวฝรั่งเศส และประพันธ์เนื้อร้องโดย Jack Lawrence.แปลมาจากเพลงฝรั่งเศสชื่อ " La mer " (ความหมายคือ The Sea) ซึ่งประพันธ์เนื้อภาษาอังกฤษโดย Charles Trenet. นักแต่งเพลงชื่อดังเมื่อปี 1943 ในขณะกำลังโดยสารรถไฟร่วมกับ Leo Chauliacเ จากเมือง  Narbonne  ไปยังเมือง Gargassone  โดยใช้เวลาเขียนเสร็จภายใน 20 นาที  เนื้อเพลงถ่ายทอดถึงความผูกพันกับธรรมชาติสวยสดงดงามของท้องทะเลและชายฝั่ง   ซึ่งเทรเนต์ หมายถึง ทะเลเมดิเตอร์เรเนียน  ที่ไหลผ่านบริเวณใกล้บ้านเกิดในเมือง  Narbonne   ด้วยเมโลดีที่เพราะหู  ฝังจับใจ คำร้องที่เรียบง่าย เมื่อเทรเนต์บันทึกเสียง " La mer " ออกจำหน่ายในปี  ค.ศ.  1946 อันเป็นช่วงที่สงครามยุติลงใหม่ๆ ผู้คนโหยหาความรื่นรมย์และความสุนทรีย์ด้านสันทนาการ " La mer " จึงกลายเป็นเพลงฮิต ที่ไม่เพียงแต่จะได้รับความนิยมในยุโรป  ยังแพร่กระจายไปตามประเทศต่างๆ ทั่วโลก   และในปี 1948 ถูกนำมาเป็นเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Every Girl Should Be Married นำแสดงโดย Cary Grant.

มีนักร้องนำมาร้องหลายคนเช่น George Benson , Ray Coniff Singers, Diana Krall, Sandpipers.  แต่ที่รู้จักกันเป็นส่วนใหญ่เป็นเสียงร้องของ  Bobby Darin ซึ่งเป็นเพลงที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับเขามากมาย  Beyond the sea กลายมาเป็นหนังอัตชีวประวัติของ Bobby Darin ที่สร้างโดย Kevin Spacey ออกฉายในปี 2004 ด้วยสไตล์กึ่งมิวสิคัล ซึ่งเขาทั้งกำกับ ร่วมเขียนบท แสดงเป็นบ๊อบบี้ แดรินเอง และร้องเพลงประกอบเองด้วยเสียงจริงทุกเพลง
และนักร้องคนล่าสุดที่นำเพลงนี้มาร้องในปี 2003 คือ Robbie Williams. และฮือฮามากที่สุดในเมืองไทย เมื่อถุกนำมาประกอบในหนังการ์ตูนของวอลทซ์ดิสนีย์ ที่เข้าฉายเมื่อ 3 ตุลาคม 2546 โกยเงินในบ้านเราได้ไปหลายล้าน ในชื่อหนังเรื่อง   Finding Nemo   นีโม ...ปลาเล็กหัวใจโต๊โต เป็นเรื่องราวการผจญภัยสุดหรรษาของนีโม ปลาการ์ตูนตัวน้อยผู้น่ารัก ในโลกใต้ทะเลแถบแนวปะการังสุดสวย  ซึ่งในโลกของความเป็นจริงแล้วที่นี่ คือThe Great Barrier Reef "สิ่งก่อสร้างที่มีชีวิต" ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก เป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของสิ่งมีชีวิตในทะเลทั้งปะการังชนิดอ่อน ชนิดแข็ง สีสวยกว่า 350 ชนิด ตลอดจนปลา และสิ่งมีชีวิตในทะเลที่น่าพิศวงต่าง ๆ อีกกว่า 1500 ชนิด  ตั้งอยู่บริเวณ แหลมเคปยอร์ค รัฐควีนแลนด์ ปะเทศออสเตรเลีย
 

"Beyond the Sea" ฮิตจนมีผู้นำไปเป็นซาวด์แทร็กซ์หนัง  หลายเรื่อง ตัวอย่างเช่น  Apollo 13, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Goodfellas, Black Rain,and The X-Files,
